Yard Size

When you're preparing a list for your real estate agent of the features you want in your new Chandler, Arizona house, don't forget to include an estimate of the size of yard that you want. Including yard requirements will really help him or her narrow things down. So what kind of yard do you want? For some people who are used to living in Mississauga condos, any green space will do. Others are more discerning. This guide should help you come to a decision about the size of yard you're looking for and the features you want.

Generally speaking, the closer you get to the center of the city the smaller your yard will be because land is at a premium in the most desirable areas. A home for sale in Rosedale, Toronto, for example, costs millions of dollars because it has a large yard in a dense urban area. Since Chandler is a bedroom community, you won't find as many homes with tiny or nonexistent yards unless the real estate developer planned them that way for people who are not interested in doing a lot of lawn maintenance.

Most suburban homes have a small front yard big enough for a tree or so (if you can get one to grow in the desert) and a back yard large enough for a pool, a Toronto patio set, or a nice play area for the kids. Homes in Chandler generally don't have huge expanses of lawn because the area is so dry and it's prohibitively expensive to water a large lawn often enough to keep it alive. Therefore the yard sizes you'll see most often in Chandler are small to medium with fences around the back of the property to separate your yard from the neighbors'.

If you're really set on having a large space like you'd get if you bought real estate in Riverdale, Toronto or a rural home, such as something in the acre range and above, you'll have to consider yard condition as well. Some Arizona yards are dirt or gravel, because large lawns are so untenable. If you want a large yard, you're probably going to have to put up with a large desert yard. Otherwise you'd spend a lot of time and money watering the lawn and caring for it (seeding, soding, mowing, etc.)

People who are unwilling to put in the extra work needed to have a green lawn often choose homes in the style of Brampton townhomes for sale, which have very small yards, only big enough for a small patio. Others choose to fill their yard with features that reduce the amount of lawn they would need to plant. These features include swimming pools, cactus or rock gardens, and patios or decks.
