School Info

When you're choosing a new city to move to after you've had your children, it can be a balancing act. Obviously you want somewhere quiet and safe where you don't have to worry about your kids getting mugged on the way to school. However, you also want them to have access to a number of good schools so they can go on to be doctors, lawyers or electronic design consultants. If you're considering our fair city, you'll be pleased to know that Chandler, Arizona home owners have a good selection of quality schools at all levels, from preschool to university, to choose from. Here is a quick overview of them.

Primary Schools

Primary schooling is perhaps the most important for children because how you begin often determines how you finish. Children who fall behind at this level often never catch up and end up saddled with careers in utility locating or food service. However, the Chandler Unified School District's 29 public elementary schools have an excellent reputation. There are also several specialty schools, including the Pathways School for students with discipline problems or who have dropped out. Education is offered in English for the most part but with a Spanish language component. Some schools offer immersion in the language.

Secondary Schools

At the secondary level students have to start thinking about their futures. If they want to go into home health services as adults they will need to focus on math and sciences in junior high and high school. Chandler schools offer them the opportunity to do this. The Unified School District has 5 junior high schools and 4 high schools within its boundaries. Anderson Junior High has earned an A+ award and Chandler Early College offers higher level courses for college-bound high schoolers. At this level, students also have the option of attending one of the two faith-based Christian academies: Seton Catholic High or Valley Christian High.

Post-Secondary Schools

The post-secondary level is where students receive practical education that enables them to follow their chosen career path. Within the Chandler/Mesa area students have the option of studying at the University level through subsidiary campuses of the University of Phoenix, Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, and Western International University, none of which are high level colleges but do award degrees. Students can also train for a trades or service career at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, or follow a manure management career path at the College of Beauty Arts and Sciences.

Supplementary Education

Adults who are looking to re-train or students wishing to follow an alternative career path will be happy to know that there are many smaller programs and courses offered by Chandler's recreation department and private institutes that can help you on your way. Learn to golf at the Golf Academy of Arizona or become a pilot by training with the Chandler Air Service. Community centers in Chandler offer courses that could net you a career in faux painting instruction, teaching swimming, tennis, or other sports, supervising children, or small business ownership.
