Chandler, Arizona occupies approximately 60 square miles of Maricopa County, 11 miles from Mesa and 21 miles from Phoenix. Chandler was established in 1891 by the first veterinarian in Arizona, Dr. Alexander Chandler. The city had a modest beginning as Chandler Ranch, 18,000 acres of personal land owned by the good doctor. Dr. Chandler began drawing up plans for a township in 1910 and by 1912 they were a reality. Within a year the town war firmly established with its own high school and the first golf course in the state.

Modern Chandler, AZ isn't a hotbed of industry, though there are a few major tech companies that maintain computer-chip production facilities in town. Intel and Motorola are two of these. Many people who live in Chandler commute to nearby Mesa or Phoenix for work. The majority of the other in-town employment opportunities come from the guest services and retail industries, however.
